My maternal grandmother was Ada
Pursglove.
She was descended from the Pursgloves of Sussex.
When looking into her family tree, I came across the One Name
Study site of Paul Pursglove
His research is centred mainly with the Northern and Midlands connections of
the family name.
He has references to the Sussex, Kent and Middlesex Pursgloves, but presently not an in-depth study of how the families were connected. My branch of the Pursgloves tree covers the geographical areas of Sussex and Middlesex and I have undertaken a study to locate branch connections within these areas.
His information on the Sussex Pursgloves has been used as the basis of my search, with additions, ammendments and additional material supplied by myself and other researchers connected to the Pursglove tree.
The following pages are
divided into Generations, (Each generation page has hyperlinks to the family
groups within marriages), starting with John Pursglove b: 1657, who married
Ann Bradder in 1691
They originally resided in Ashover
Derbyshire, but in about 1698, they moved to the Herstmonceux area of Sussex.
(Herstmonceux have their own village website at http://www.herstmonceux.org.uk/)
If you have other family links in Herstmonceux, check this link out http://www.family-history.org.uk/
In generation 5, a branch of the family moved to Middlesex. My direct line is descended from this group.
My target with this research is to trace back the descendents of John and Ann to the point that the surname is changed through marriage of the female lines.
Each Generation section is created using evidence I have either directly acquired or from other researchers and 3rd party sources.
Please note that no full
validation of evidence has taken place, so information is to guide other family
researchers.
The main verification has been that of the Generations from the marriage of
John Pursglove with Mary Harmer.
If you have any further information I can add, or see any errors within the pages, you can contact me at
You are welcome to reference information from this site, but please be polite and credit your sources and better still, leave your details in my guest book, so we can share information with the whole group.
